After a rough 2014 season, Boro football is eager to look toward its 2015 campaign.
The Fighting Scots got their first glimpse into the future last week.
Head football coach Scott Browning announced Edinboro’s 2015 regular season schedule, his tenth season at the helm, via a release through the university’s sports information department on Jan. 22.
After making the long trek to Jefferson City, Tenn. to open the 2014 season, the Scots will remain in Edinboro in week one of the season as they welcome Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) to Sox Harrison Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., the squad’s lone Thursday night game of the season compared to three last season.
The meeting will be the first ever between the Scots and the Pumas, who are members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and finished 8-3 a year ago.
“We’re very excited to open the season with St. Joseph’s as a part of a home-and-home contract,” said Browning via the release. “My wife kids me that she’s not sure why we are playing on Thursday, since we can’t seem to win on Thursdays. I think the players really enjoy those games and it should be a great way to open the season.”
The remainder of the schedule is against schools within the PSAC, the same schools that Boro faced in 2014 with the sites of the games flipped.
In addition to St. Joseph’s (Ind.), the Scots will play host to Shippensburg, California (Pa.), Clarion, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock while hitting the road to play East Stroudsburg, Indiana (Pa.), Gannon, Seton Hill and Millersville.
The team’s two longest trips will be to East Stroudsburg and Millersville. Browning’s bunch will visit the Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 19 and the Mauraders to close out the season on Saturday, Nov. 14. Both games have times that have yet to be determined.
Additionally, the season finale against Millersville is not a game counting towards conference records and is subject to change if either squad is in the PSAC championship game.
Edinboro will be a part of a few homecomings this season as they will look to ruin IUP’s homecoming on Oct. 3 after the Crimson Hawks defeated the Fighting Scots 18-8 in their homecoming last season. On Saturday, Oct. 10 Boro hosts the Clarion Golden Eagles at 2 p.m. for homecoming. The Scots defeated Clarion 56-28 last season.
The team will have to put on some tricks as the home crowd will have a treat when the defending PSAC champion Slippery Rock comes to Edinboro on Halloween at noon.
“There’s no question this is a challenging schedule,” Browning said. “We have our work cut out for us, but I believe this is the type of schedule that will make our players work even harder during the offseason.”
