TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – The 2016 World Series of Bicycling resumes this Friday night with the debut of a brand new event, the T-town Showdown.
It has been a bit of mystery as to what is in store on the track, but Valley Preferred Cycling Center Executive Director Marty Nothstein shared what fans can expect on race night.
“It is going to be the ultimate fan experience,” Nothstein said. “Fans are going to pick what races we do that night as the night unfolds. We might even do some social media polls to decide some races as well. It really will be a fun night.”
The riders will find out what race is selected right before taking the track, leaving little to no time to plan a strategy, which makes the competition more intriguing.
Another unusual wrinkle is stagiaire racing on Friday nights. The stagiaire category, which is held during Fuji Bikes Super Tuesday races, will be run on Friday night this week as well. The stagiaires will race their own category on Friday night to complement the professional men and women’s categories.
Off the track it is USA Night at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. During opening ceremonies, eight Hometown Heroes will be honored with prize packs of gratitude from Allentown Beverage and Budweiser.
Also in the plaza will be representatives from the Marines as well as other USA themed vendors. Additionally, Allentown Beverage will be giving away prizes in the plaza as well.
Additionally, all past and current military personnel as well as all current first responders receive free general admission with I.D. proof.
The happy hour special from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Beer and Wine stand will be $2 Budweisers and Bud Lights, keeping with the USA theme.
Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $5. Children 12 years old and younger are free with a paying adult. Click here to purchase your tickets in advance.
